NRPE 2.15 Released – Now with IPv6 Support

NRPE 2.15 was released earlier today. The primary update in this version of NRPE is full support for IPv6.

The NRPE daemon now has the ability to listen on IPv4 and/or IPv6 addresses. In addition, the check_nrpe plugin now accepts switches that specify whether an IPv4 or IPv6 connection should be made to the NRPE daemon. The NRPE daemon has always had the ability to perform checks using IPv6, assuming the plugin it runs supports it. Thanks to Leo Baltus for the patch that made this possible.

IPv6 communication has been tested on Linux (RHEL/CentOS) and is known to work there. It also known to compile on other Unices that we have access to: Solaris 10, AIX 5.3 and 6.1 and HP-UX 11i v1. Feedback on these and other platforms is welcome. Bugs or enhancements (preferably with patches) can be submitted to http://tracker.nagios.org. Other discussion/questions can be sent to the mailing lists or http://support.nagios.com/forum.

NRPE 2.14 Now Available

A new release of NPRE (2.14) is now available from SourceForge. This release contains a number of changes including enhanced support for AIX as well a patch to prevent a potential security issue arising from passing bash command substitutions as arguments.

Enjoy!

NDOUtils 1.5.2 Available

A new release of NDOUtils (1.5.2) is now available from SourceForge.

NDOUtils uses a message queue to communicate between the module that is loaded into Nagios Core and the daemon used to write data to the database. In this version, if there are too few resources available in the queue to send a message, the module will retry sending the message up to 20 times. It will also log a warning if the system resources are low enough to require retries. Finally, the README has been updated with instructions for tuning the message parameters in the Linux kernel to increase the message queue resources.

Nagios XI Agents for Solaris and AIX

If your environment includes Solaris or AIX systems, a solution is now available to ease monitoring of those system with Nagios XI. The Nagios XI NRPE agent provides a simple agent installer for the target system and a wizard that provides useful defaults when configuring Nagios XI to monitor the target system. Nagios XI agents for Solaris and AIX have been released. The Solaris agent has been tested on Solaris 10, both x86 and SPARC. The AIX agent has been tested on both AIX 5.3 and 6.1.

To use the Solaris agent, download the agent, agent installation instructions, and wizard. The same agent installer works for both SPARC and x86 systems.

To use the AIX agent, download the agent, agent installation instructions and wizard. The same agent installer works for both AIX 5.3 and AIX 6.1

An HP-UX agent is also in the works. An announcement will be made here where it is available.
